    MicroStrategy BI Developer

    We are looking for a MicroStrategy BI Developer to design and build dashboards, reports and analytics solutions for a large enterprise client. You will work on the MicroStrategy semantic layer (attributes, facts, metrics) on top of Snowflake, working closely with data engineers, analysts and business stakeholders in an Agile delivery setup. Hands-on Snowflake skills are a core part of the role.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and build MicroStrategy schema objects: attributes, derived attributes, facts (including nested facts), table structures and aliasing, in line with the project architecture
    • Develop public objects: metrics of all types, filters, prompts, subtotals, custom groups, consolidations and Intelligent Cubes
    • Design and deliver reports, dashboards, dossiers and Hypercards, using MicroStrategy Web and converting dashboards to mobile versions
    • Troubleshoot data issues and analyse MicroStrategy-generated SQL to fix performance or accuracy problems
    • Connect MicroStrategy to Snowflake and take an active part in data preparation: build reporting-friendly views and tables, and write Snowflake SQL (and Python where it makes sense) to shape, clean and validate data
    • Design and adapt data models (dimensional, star and snowflake schemas) that fit reporting needs, and agree with data engineers on upstream changes
    • Stay flexible as sources, models and requirements evolve, moving comfortably between BI development, data modelling and data prep
    • Apply ACLs and security filters, manage project structure, and use Workstation, Object Manager, System Manager and Command Manager for administration and migrations
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile framework and translate business needs into scalable, well-documented analytics solutions

    Required Skills & Experience

    • 3 to 5 years of hands-on MicroStrategy development experience
    • 6 months to 1 year of hands-on Snowflake experience (SQL and Python development, views, roles and warehouses)
    • Strong grounding in data modelling (dimensional modelling, star and snowflake schemas)
    • Solid SQL skills and the ability to analyse MicroStrategy-generated SQL against Snowflake
    • Experience with MicroStrategy Web, Workstation, Object Manager, System Manager and Command Manager
    • Experience integrating MicroStrategy with Snowflake
    • Working knowledge of the MicroStrategy Architect and Warehouse Catalog
    • Experience working in Agile teams
    • Strong communication skills and a sense of ownership
    • Experience with VLDB settings and performance tuning, ideally Snowflake-specific
    • Experience with logical views and user hierarchies
    • Exposure to MicroStrategy Mobile configuration and project setup
    • Familiarity with Snowflake data loading and transformation (Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, dbt)
    • SnowPro Core certification or MicroStrategy certification
    • Project management exposure
    • Experience across multiple industries

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with VLDB settings and performance tuning, ideally Snowflake-specific
    • Experience with logical views and user hierarchies
    • Exposure to MicroStrategy Mobile configuration and project setup
    • Familiarity with Snowflake data loading and transformation (Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, dbt)
